I’m a hands-on kinda guy and so love making, fixing, and just plain doing! Colvin is my helper around the house and, as you can see from the photo here, loves DIY projects too. This is a little project we built for his 5th grade class. It was a game board project for the class but has become a centerpiece in our home for playing chess. We like to play that too!
There is something inside me that feels a drive to volunteer. I love serving others in whatever capacity is needed. I am currently volunteering on the Kearney Archway Advisory Committee.
I also volunteer with our home owners association. I have had many roles with our association from board member to president but currently I am our waste water facilities manager and project lead to get our neighborhood sewer system connected to the city of Kearney. Isn’t not an elegant job, but everyone has to be able to flush!
Some of my more proud volunteer roles have been with the Kearney Area Pet Therapy program and also my four and a half years on the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department. You can read more about our pet therapy dog Daisy on her website. We were active with the library reading program, parades, hospital visits and other events were the pet therapy program was needed. When I was with KVFD, I enjoyed fighting fires but my real passion was being on the rescue team. This mostly involved car wrecks but I was also the rope rescue supervisor which was a blast because we got to practice picking people off grain elevators and fun things like that!
